City drivers around the world have long known the advantages of scooters, and Canadian urban dwellers are catching on that scooters for commuters have benefits.

An inexpensive investment

If public transit isn’t an option, a scooter is an affordable way to get motoring. A quick online search at the sites of some scooter manufacturers shows that new scooters range in price from about $2,799 to $10,499. Depending on your needs, it’s probably cheaper than purchasing a new car. And if you consider some of the other ways you’ll be saving, it could pay for itself in the long run.

GM to launch navigation app, lessen focus on in-car console

Posted on May 3rd, 2012

One of the basic problems some automakers have dealt with in recent years is that the technology they put inside new cars can quickly become outdated as the systems continue to evolve.

The problem is particularly prevalent with in-car navigation units, since the continued evolution of GPS systems and similar technologies has left past models behind. General Motors is looking to avoid this issue by abandoning in-car navigation consoles within some of its new models.

Starting with select 2013 Chevrolet Spark and Sonic models this year, car buyers will be able to download a mobile application to their cellphones which will be capable of broadcasting turn-by-turn directions through the cars MyLink system, according to USA Today*.

Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Right: Why Not to Inflate Claims

Posted on April 18th, 2012

If an estimate is significantly higher than the carrier’s evaluation of the claim, SIU (Special Investigative Unit, the fraud division) likely will become involved. Once SIU is involved, the entire tenor of the claim-handling changes. The policyholders will be looked upon as fraud perpetrators. They can expect investigators to be dispatched by the insurer to question their neighbors and associates concerning the claim and circumstances of the insured’s life. The

We deserve to know more. Much more.

I’ve been an insurance lawyer for almost 20 years.  Here’s what I wish I could tell everyone:  in Michigan,  No-Fault insurance companies can effectively charge whatever they want, for whatever reason they want, and make as much money as they want, with pretty much absolute impunity. (MCL 500.1615(5); 500.2109(1)(a))

In other words, want to know why we have such expensive insurance in Michigan?  That’s why.

For example, even if a Michigan Insurance Commissioner were inclined to rein in auto insurance prices, Michigan law makes it practically impossible to do so. Excessive

Posted on April 9th, 2012

Automakers are struggling to appeal to young drivers, according to National Public Radio, which reports manufacturers have to think outside of the box to reach today’s youth.

Posted on April 7th, 2012

Every college student dreams of making an impression at college by driving down in a red sports car. For many this might be impossible, but you can still buy your college kid a car and appropriate car insurance.

Car coverage is of two types—comprehensive and third party. The former covers everything right from small dents to large accident claims or even theft. It also includes medical expenses you might have to defray at the time of an accident.

Third party coverage pays for all the expenses caused due to a student’s car being damaged by a third party. It’
