Proposal for national ban on texting and talking on cell phones while driving
Posted on December 28th, 2011
As Michigan auto accident attorneys, the recent national news from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is extremely important. I’ve lectured and written extensively about the dangers of talking and texting while driving, and this year Michigan Auto Law had a successful texting while driving awareness campaign. Now the NTSB has recommended no use of cell phones – period – for people driving in cars and trucks.
The statistics showing how driving while using a cell phone now show that its just too dangerous and causes far too many preventable car accidents.
As the NTSB put it, they are calling for the first-ever nationwide ban on driver use of personal electronic devices (PEDS) while operating a motor vehicle. The sa

Cars have never looked so good

Automakers trying to make their vehicles more appealing to consumers are succeeding. Marketing and research firm, J.D. Power and Associates, recently conducted its annual Automotive Performance Execution and Layout study, also known as APEAL. Since 1996, the study has examined the satisfaction level of new car drivers based on more than 70 criteria. The gratification car owners have with their vehicle is then measured on a 1,000-point scale, 1,000 being a perfect score.
ABI provides winter tyre reassurance
Posted on December 8th, 2011
Motorists who fit winter tyres to their cars should not be subject to an extra charge on their insurance, according to the ABI.
ABI member insurers make up 90% of the motor insurance market, and will not charge an additional premium if winter tyres are fitted, assuming the tyres are roadworthy, and are fitted in accordance with (having met) the vehicle manufacturers’ specifications.
Director of General Insurance Nick Starling explained that insurers do not want to penalise motorists who take steps to enhance their safety during winter.
Starling added that winter weather came early last year and there was some confusion that has now been clarified.
Insurers will typically not charge extra for fitting winter tyres but it may be necessary to advise an insurer that such an act has taken place, and the commitment does not cover fitting new wheels.
Having suffered two prolonged and severe bouts of winter weather in the past two years Britons and insurers are more aware of the risks involved, and home insurers have also issued early advice to homeowners to lag their pipes and (if necessary) keep their heating on to prevent burst pipes and substantial inconvenience/cost.

High Risk or SR22 Insurance
Posted on December 7th, 2011

Such drivers might fall into a high-risk age group, have a history of repeated moving violations or accidents, or have had their driving privileges suspended or revoked due to a drunk driving or other serious violation. Colloquially, you might hear high risk car insurance referred to as SR22 insurance, although the latter is actually a misnomer. As we will explain below, there is technically no such thing as SR 22 insurance—the term just reflects a conflation of high risk policies with the concept of an SR 22 form.
Usually, when drivers refer to SR22 auto insurance, they really mean high risk, or non-standard, auto insurance. T
